Community Guidelines

BookApp works best when readers help each other find the right books and feel welcome doing it. These guidelines explain the small set of habits we ask everyone to follow.

Be respectful

Treat every reader as a person with their own taste, background, and limits. Disagree about a book, not about the person who loves it. Harassment, threats, hate speech, and deliberate cruelty are not welcome anywhere on BookApp.

Reviews, comments, posts, and tags should stay connected to books, reading, or the reading community. Spam, unrelated advertising, and repeated off-topic posts make the shared spaces harder to use for everyone.

Tag thoughtfully

Tropes and content warnings help readers decide whether a book is right for them. Curated tags are shared vocabulary; custom tags are added by readers when the curated list is missing something. Custom tags are reviewed by moderators before they appear. Once approved, custom tags are public and can be reported. A submission that breaks these guidelines is rejected and does not appear. Use plain, descriptive language, avoid jokes that could mislead, and keep each tag to a single clear idea.

Harmful-language screening is best-effort. It catches many variants, but it is a heuristic, so a novel variant can occasionally get through. When that happens, reporting and staff moderation are the backstop, and staff review will handle anything that slips past screening.

Warn before spoilers

Keep spoilers out of tags, titles, and previews. When a review needs to discuss plot details, mark it as containing spoilers so other readers can choose to read on. A tag that gives away a twist is a spoiler even if it is short.

Do not share another person's private information, including addresses, contact details, workplace details, or anything else they have not made public. Do not upload or paste content you do not have the right to share, and give credit when you quote a short passage from a book, review, or article.

What happens when something is reported

Reports are reviewed by moderators. If content breaks these guidelines, it may be removed. A custom tag that is removed by moderation stays removed for that book, and the same text cannot be added again. Repeated violations can lead to further account restrictions. Reports are also used to spot patterns, so reporting a genuine problem helps even when a single item looks minor.

How to report

Use the flag control beside a review, comment, post, or custom tag. Choose the reason that best matches the problem and add a short description if the report form asks for one. For anything that is not tied to a single piece of content, use the feedback button in the app and tell us what you noticed.
